Abstract

1420637 Alkoxycarbonyl substituted 3- anilino-2-pyrazol-5-ones FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 15 Nov 1973 [15 Nov 1972] 53161/73 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C4 and G2] The invention relates to alkoxycarbonyl substituted 3-anilino-2-pyrazol-5-ones, wherein the anilino group is substituted in at least one of the ortho-positions thereof by a halogen atom, or an alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxy, alkylthio, arylthio, amino, amido, hydroxyl, cyano or nitro group and in at least one of the meta- and para-positions by an alkoxycarbonyl group. The compounds preferably have the general formula wherein R is a heterocyclic group or an optionally substituted aryl group; R<SP>1</SP> is a cycloalkyl group or an optionally substituted alkyl group; X and Y each represent an alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxy, alkylthio, arylthio, amino, amido, halogen, hydroxyl, cyano or nitro group and Y may also be hydrogen; Z is a hydrogen atom or a residue which can be removed by coupling it with the oxidation product of a silver halide developing agent. The compounds of the invention may be used as non-diffusing magenta couplers in silver halide photographic emulsions.
