Abstract

524,320. Ultra-violet absorbing filters. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co.). Jan. 23, 1939, No. 2266. [Classes 97 (i) and 98 (ii)] An ultra-violet absorbing filter comprises a transparent carrier, for example gelatin, agaragar, cellulose esters or ethers, or synthetic resins, including alkali-soluble colloids, containing a cyanine dye. which may be substantially colourless, absorbing light in the region 350 to 400ÁÁ or in the region 400 to 450 ÁÁ or in both. The filter may be used as a lens filter. Photographic material having one or more light sensitive emulsions on a support has a layer containing such a cyanine dye, which may be an oxacyanine, a benzoxacyanine, a dibenzoxacyanine, a thiazolocyanine, or a cyanine such as 1-(#-1<SP>1</SP>-piperidylvinyl)-benzthiazole, 1-( #-4<SP>1</SP>-morpholylvinyl)-benzthiazole, 1- (#-diethylaminovinyl)-benzthiazole, or 1-(#- anilidovinyl)-benzoxazole. In multilayer colour photographic material, the cyanine dye may be incorporated in the emulsion layer, in an intermediate or backing layer, or in the support. Specifications 419,361, 504,821, 515,145 and 524,378 are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, the cyanine dye may be incorporated in the support of a lenticular film.
