Abstract

851,480. Electric clocks. OBERGFELL, R., and OBERGFELL, H., [trading as KIENINGER & OBERGFELL]. Dec. 28, 1956 [Dec. 28, 1955; April 13, 1956; July 2, 1956], No. 39515/56. Class 139 An electric clock comprises an oscillating member driven by interaction between a magnetic member and a motor coil, a semi-conductor device, e.g. a transistor, the output of which is fed to the motor coil, a generator coil in which impulses are generated by relative motion between the generator coil and the magnetic member, and a resistor connected in parallel with the motor coil and is characterised in that the generator coil, the motor coil, the value of said resistor and the transistor are such that the output characteristic of the transistor (collector current plotted against battery voltage) includes a comparatively flat portion on which the operating point is located. The resistor may be of the negative temperature coefficient type or an additional such resistor may be provided. In the first example, Fig. 2, the oscillating member is a balance 7 carrying a bar magnet 5 and the generator and motor coils 2 and 3 are shaped so that the air gap between them and the magnet is substantially constant. In another example, Fig. 5, the mechanical oscillator is a pendulum 15 suspended from a bi-metallic strip 19. In a modification the pendulum is supported in the usual manner but the support is acted on by a bi-metallic strip. It is suggested that temperature compensation may be effected by an aneroid cylinder.
