Abstract
850,871. Making heat-exchangers; brazing. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 21, 1958, No. 9098/58. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XIII] In a method of making a heat-exchanger in which a plurality of dished plates 1 are stacked with adjacent plates facing in opposite directions so forming a group of superimposed hollow members, and in which extended heat transfer surface in the form of a corrugated sheet 18 is disposed between adjacent hollow members, the plates 1 and any necessary additional components such as header plates 11, 12 and header 15 are bolted together in a jig (not shown) and the assembly is preheated before brazing in a furnace or salt bath. The components may be coated with brazing alloy or suitably shaped sheets of brazing foil may be interposed on assembly. The heat-exchanger components may be of an aluminium alloy, the brazing being effected by an aluminium-silicon alloy. Alternatively a lead/tin brazing alloy is used if the heat-exchanger components are made of steel or copper.
