Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of the waste- gas side surface of heat absorption section of a heat pipe, by forming that surface and fins with lead or a lead alloy.
CONSTITUTION: A vessel 1 made of a metal having a superior heat transfer efficiency and mechanical strength such as copper, aluminum, steel or an alloy constituted mainly by these metals, is filled with a working fluid 8. Plate fins 5a, 5b are provided on the external surface of the vessel 1. One of these fins constitutes a heat absorption section for contacting a hot waste gas, while the other constitute a heat radiation section for contacting with air. The plate fins 5a constituting the heat absorption section 2 are made of a lead alloy containing 0.5 to 11% by weight of antimony. A coating pipe 4 of the same material as the plate fins 5a is interposed between the plate fins 5a and the vessel 1. As a result, the mechanical strength and corrosion resistance against the sulfuric acid contained by the waste gas is improved
