Abstract

850,699. Feeding coal to furnaces. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD, RATCLIFFE, F., PAYTON, E. J., and PUCKEY, S. W. Nov. 20, 1958 [Nov. 25, 1957], No. 36728/57. Class 78 (1). Coal from bunker 2 passes into weigher 3 and thence falls into hopper 4. Hopper 4 is shaped rectangularly at its top and circularly at its bottom so as to feed coal smoothly to shoot 7. Shoot 7 diverges downwardly to allow the coal to fall into trunking 8, which is square. The coal is fed therefrom by screw 11 and drops down shoot to a pulverizing mill en route to the furnace of a boiler. The motor driving the screw 11 is governed automatically in accordance with the needs of the boiler, and the design of the hopper and shoot prevents blockages.
