Abstract

850,578. Magnetic transfer copying paper. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. April 16, 1959 [May 5, 1958], No. 12929/59. Class 96. To improve the definition of script, of magnetizable coating material, transferred by impact of type &c., e.g. for use in electronic accounting-machine systems, such coating material, e.g. a composition of black magnetic iron oxide, of average particle-diameter less than 1 micron, with a binder of castor oil, paraffin wax and polyethylene wax, is applied as a stippled coating 24, e.g. of 40,000 specks per sq. inch to a non-absorbent base web 23, e.g. of polyethylene terephthalate 0.0005 inch thick. The specks 24 may coalesce as illustrated so that fracture under typing impact &c. occurs at the thin regions. The composition may be heated to 260‹ F. and applied by a rotogravure roller; and the coated web may be allowed to cool before use. The typing impact may be applied either to the transfer sheet, or to a copyreceiving sheet laid thereon.
