[Also in Group XVI] In a duplicating process a master sheet carrying a substantially colourless mirror image of written matter to be duplicated, the mirrorscript comprising a colourless, acid-sensitive dyestuff derivative, is pressed into contact with a copy-sheet carrying an acid fixing substance for developing the dyestuff derivative, whereby a faint copy of the written matter is produced upon the copy sheet, and the copy sheet is thereafter exposed to a source of heat sufficient to cause a colour forming reaction between the dyestuff derivative and the acid fixing substance to occur substantially immediately. The mirror image on the master sheet is produced by writing on the exposed surface of a sheet of art paper having its other surface in contact with a " carbon " paper carrying a transferable coating of a composition which includes an acid-sensitive, colourless leucauramine derivative such as phenyl - leucauramine, p - xylyl - leucauramine, anilido leucauramine or mixtures thereof. The coating may be composed as follows :- The copy sheets are of good quality, slightly calendered bank paper coated with a composition including an acid fixing substance such as phospho-tungstic acid, phospho-molybdic acid, phospho-silicic acid, an alkali metal phosphotungstate, phosphomolybdate, or phosphosilicate or mixtures thereof. The acid fixing substance may be emulsified with water, dextrin, pectin, blanc-fixe and stearic or oleic or other similar fatty acid. The heat may be applied to the copy sheets by passing them between a pair of rollers of which at least one is heated, by bringing them into contact with a heated plate or by exposing them to the action of infra-red rays or hot air jets.
