Abstract

Compositions for making the transfer layer in a hectographic transfer sheet (see Division D2) comprise a hectographic dyestuff or an infra-red radiation-absorbing, magnetic pigment or both and a binder. The compositions in examples comprise: (1) carnauba wax, raw montan wax, beeswax, lanolin, mineral oil, crystal violet and magnetic iron oxide; (3) chlorinated polyphenyls, beeswax, crystal violet, iron filings and carbon tetrachloride; and (5) carnauba wax, polybutene, beeswax, mineral oil and magnetic iron oxide. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 683,505.ALSO:Compositions for making the transfer layer in a hectographic transfer sheet (see Division D2) comprise a hectograph dyestuff, or an infra-red radiation-absorbing, magnetic pigment or both and a binder. The compositions in examples comprise: (2) ethylcellulose, lanolin, mineral oil, spirit black dyestuff, metallic iron powder and solvent; (5) Carnauba wax, polybutene, beeswax, mineral oil and magnetic iron oxide; and (6) ethylcellulose, magnetic iron oxide, methyl alcohol and water. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 683,505.ALSO:A hectographic transfer sheet for the placing of magnetically sensible, thermographically reproducible, duplicate images on a master sheet comprises a flexible foundation and a pressure-transferable coating which includes both hectograph dyestuff and infra-red radiation-absorbing, magnetic pigment dispersed in a binder material. The dyestuff and the pigment may be both in the same layer, or a layer of binder and pigment may overlie a layer of binder and dyestuff. The foundation sheet may be of paper, polyethylene teraphthalate or regenerated cellulose. The binder may be a wax, ethyl-cellulose, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl chloride and copolymers, polystyrene, styrene-isoprene copolymer, chlorinated polyphenyls or rosin-modified alkyd resins. The pigment may be metallic iron or the magnetic black or red oxide of iron. The dyestuff may be crystal violet or spirit black or a pair of complementary colour-formers such as gallic acid and iron chloride or colourless components that react to form an azo dye. Hectographic master sheets made from these transfer sheets can be filed, sorted and selected automatically using magnetic sorting means. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 683,505.
