Abstract
925,961. Printing surfaces. CARL ALLERS ETABLISSEMENTS A.S. May 22, 1959 [May 22, 1958], No. 16536/58. Class 100 (2). A bi-metallic lithographic printing plate has a moisture receptive metal, and tin as an ink receptive metal. The plate preferably consists of commercial tinned iron having an ink rejecting and moisture accepting metal, such as chromium or a chromium alloy, applied to its surface. The water receptive metal-is coated with a light-sensitive material. After the usual processing of the light-sensitive coating the plate is etched to expose the tin in the image areas. Blank plates are coated with a light opaque material to protect the lightsensitive coating prior to exposure. As shown, a roll 1 of tinned iron is drawn through a unit 3 where chromium is electrolytically deposited thereon, through a unit 4<SP>1</SP> where a coating of light-sensitive material is applied, through a unit 4<SP>2</SP> where a coating of light opaque material is applied, and either on to a support 5 or into a cutting machine 7.
