960,840. Photo-mechanical printing. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. May 11, 1962 [May 13, 1961; Oct. 5, 1961], Nos. 17499/61 and 35855/61. Heading G2M. [Also in Division H1] A photographic master for use in the manufacture of printed circuits comprises a sheet of transparent material coated with an adherent layer of an opaque substance in a pattern which leaves uncoated a plurality of small areas, representations of a circuit diagram being formed by removing narrow bands of the layer with a hand tool. As shown, a sheet 2 of transparent material has a number of small annular areas 3 left uncoated and may also have uncoated strips 4 and 6. A hand tool is used to remove the coating to form the pattern of a printed circuit, the central coated dot 9 may or may not be removed. The master may be photographed on to a photosensitive layer on a metal clad surface, the unexposed portions of the layer and the underlying metal being removed.
