In forming a rectangular section package of tobacco &c., a wrapper as shown is folded to tubular shape about the contents and the inner surfaces of the extremities are heat sealed to form a seam 21. End panels 17 are turned in and their margins 18, 19 folded outwards in face-to-face relationship with projecting margins 13, 14 of the tube sides. The margins are heat-sealed to complete the package. The seam 21 may be slit to facilitate its removal by tearing.
