Abstract

850,188. Rotary pumps. PLENTY & SON Ltd. July 11, 1958 [July 17, 1957], No. 22656/57. Class 110 (2). Cavitation in the working chamber 26 of a rotary pump is overcome by providing a by-pass pipe or passage 30 from the delivery pipe 24 to the working chamber 26. The pipe 30 terminates in an outlet 30a giving access to working chamber 26 at a point therein nearer to the suction side 22 than to the delivery side 24 of the pump. The flow through pipe 30 may be metered by appropriate choice of diameter thereof or by a constriction therein or by a valve 34. In a reversible pump an additional pipe 28 and valve 32 are provided. The invention is described as applied to a specific form of sliding vane pump but is not limited thereto. Specifications 689,313 and 740,934 are referred to.
