Abstract

849,890. Wicks. HELKENBERG, F. April 16. 1958 [Feb. 24, 1958], No. 34234/59. Divided out of 840,414. Drawings to Specification. Class 75(1). A tubular cotton wick intended for a liquid fuel burning heater has a two-ply tube of resin- or glue-impregnated cotton fabric glued into its end. The two ply tube is formed from a length of the fabric which is treated on one side with glue, wound into tube form and fitted into one end of the wick. Pressure is applied to the wick and the tube at a temperature of approximately 80‹C. and the outer diameter is calibrated to required dimensions at this temperature. A film of soap, which is applied to the outside of the wick in the region surrounding the two ply tube, is at this temperature absorbed into the wick. The end of the wick which contains the tube is bevelled to produce a sharp inner edge. A blended glue suitable for the sticking process is stated to consist of 50% water-soluble glue, 6% magnesia, 44% water.
