Abstract

849,782. Portable jib cranes. HOPKINSON & CO. Ltd., A. Feb. 12, 1959 [Feb. 18, 1958], No. 5282/58. Class 78 (4). A portable jib crane has a frame 10 which is capable of spanning a hatch c of a ship. As shown the jib 12 is pivoted to lugs 10a so that it can fold against the frame, and is normally held erect by struts 13 terminating in shoes 14 secured to the frame by removable pins 15. A platform 20 for supporting a drum D can turn about a hinge 21 or, alternatively, may slide or run on wheels along the frame. The frame is provided with turned up ends 11 for easy manhandling. The struts 13 may be replaced by links pivoted to the jib and to the shoes 14 so that the angle of the jib may be altered by pinning the shoes 14 in different positions along the frame.
