Abstract
849,491. Vehicle power steering. HYDROSTEER Ltd. Oct. 31, 1956 [Aug. 12, 1955; July 20, 1956], Nos. 23305/55 and 22626/56. Class 79(5). [Also in Group XXV] In a power-assisted steering mechanism having a reciprocating ram and cylinder form ing an expansible component in the trans mission to the steering wheels (not shown and the cylinder being connected to another transmission component (not shown) by a bal joint, the ball head 6<SP>1</SP> is formed with a groove 19 in a plane containing the axis of the cylinder and the socket has balls 21 trapped in the groove whereby the other componen holds the cylinder from turning about its own axis. As shown in Fig. 2 the invention is applied to a power assisted steering mechanism having the control valve and the ram and cylinder disposed in line, and the balls 21 are constrained in a member 15 associated with the control valve. It is stated that the invention in obviating rolling of the cylinder relieves strain from liquid pressure lines taken to the cylinder. Specification 831,898 is referred to.
