Abstract

849,487. Telephone instruments. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. March 13, 1957 [March 14, 1956], No. 8224/57. Class 40 (4). A condenser microphone or loud-speaker comprises an apertured fixed electrode 1 made of aluminium and a vibratable diaphragm 2, the surface of the fixed electrode being chemically or electrochemically oxidized so as to provide a slightly conductive layer 4 which prevents the build-up of surface charges during operation. The diaphragm may be slightly spaced from the fixed electrode, Fig. 1 (not shown), or may be in part contact with a roughened oxidecoated surface as shown in Fig. 2. In a modification of the latter embodiment, Fig. 3, a synthetic resin insulating layer 5 is interposed between the oxide layer and the diaphragm 6. The oxide layer may be formed by application of a solution of soda and potassium chromate in water at a temperature of 90‹ C. and may alternatively be applied to a surface of the -diaphragm.
