Abstract
1348734 Transducer; diaphragms SIEMENS AG 5 April 1972 [23 April 1971] 15565/72 Heading H4J A transducer consists of a housing containing a diaphragm 8 which is gripped in its peripheral area by an elastomeric body 6 that rests on the end face of a hollow cylinder 4. The latter has different wall thicknesses at its two ends either of which maybe selected for giving different degrees of support, i.e. compression, to the elastomeric body in dependence on the purpose to which the transducer is put, e.g. as a microphone or a telephone receiver. The cylinder preferably includes an integral inner disc 10 which serves to define a resonant chamber in conjunction with the rear face of the diaphragm. The disc need not be located centrally of the cylinder (height) so that different size chambers are obtained in accordance with which end is used to support the body 6. As shown the disc is solid and is provided with apertures 11 for interconnecting the two chambers but it may be hollow with apertures to one only of the chambers (Fig. 2, not shown) or to both chambers (Fig. 3, not shown). The diaphragm may be provided with a piezo-electric layer 7 and the whole assembly is located in a housing consisting of two parts 1 and 2 glued together with apertures 3 being provided in the front cover 2.
