Abstract

849,334. Jet propulsion nozzles. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. March 12, 1957 [March 16, 1956], No. 7341/57. Divided out of 849,333. Class 110(3). A jet propulsion nozzle comprises a tubular nozzle structure to which are pivoted about axes contained in a plane lying substantially at right-angles to the axis of the tubular structure at least six flap members which extend peripherally between substantially parallel walls parallel to a plane containing the nozzle axis. The nozzle comprises a tubular part 100 with a series of six pairs of parallel walls 101. Curved flap-members 102, pivoted to the part 100 adjacent the upstream end of the walls 101, are mounted between each pair of walls 101. The flap members 102 are actuated by rams mounted on the exterior of a blister housing 107. The total peripheral extent of the flap members 102 is a major proportion of the total peripheral extent of the nozzle at its outlet. Preferably the flap members 102 slide over the walls 101 in gas sealing contact. Specification 768,553 also is referred to.
