Abstract

937,270. Aircraft jet propulsion plant. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Aug. 16, 1962 [Aug. 23, 1961], No. 30461/61. Class 4. A swivelling jet propulsion nozzle comprises a casing 11 and first nozzle member 12 pivoted together about an axis passing through the centre of curvature of co-operating part spherical surfaces 15, 16 on the casing and member 12, and a second nozzle member 13 pivoted to the first member 12 about an axis passing through the centre of curvature of co-operating part spherical surfaces 16, 17 on the two nozzle members. In the Figure, the two axes are colinear at 18, and the casing 11 is itself pivotable about the same axis. The casing is joined to the outlet 10 of a gas turbine engine or a turbo-fan. The two nozzles members are tiltable in the same sense by linkwork 21, 24, 26 operable by a hydraulic jack 20, and this apparatus may be duplicated on the other side of the nozzle.
