Abstract
822,299. Jet propulsion plant. SOC. NATIONALE D' ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D' AVIATION. July 10, 1956 [July 12, 1955], No. 21322/56. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXXIII] Apparatus for varying the effective crosssectional area of the propulsive jet on an aircraft comprises at least two peripheral slots in the rear end of the jet pipe 1, four slots 6, 6a, 7, 7a being shown, each connecting respectively with chambers 4, 4a, 5, 5a. Chambers 4 and 5 and chambers 4a, 5a are connected respectively to ducts 9 and 9a, both of which connect through a common valve 15 with a further duct 8 which is supplied with pressure gas from an engine compressor or other source. Operation of valve 15 causes gas jets to flow from slots 6-7a to contract the flow of the propulsive jet. A divergent annular extension 16 is spaced from the rear end of jet-pipe 1 and airflow induced through the gap 17 between nozzle 1 and extension 16 prevents the propulsive jet from sticking to the inner surface of the extension. The extension 16 and valves 11, 11a and 12 and a valve 12a (not shown) are provided to enable the propulsive jet to be deflected laterally of the jet pipe (see Group XXXIII). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 749,560.
