849,034. Coating webs. MARTIN, T. G. Jan. 14, 1959 [July 19, 1958], No. 23245/58. Class 140. An apparatus for inking a typewriter ribbon 21 comprises a pair of inking rollers 18 providing a nip through which the ribbon 21 is to be passed, the rollers 18 having over substantially all their peripheral surface indentations which carry ink to be transferred to the ribbon, ink being supplied to the rollers 18 by transfer rollers 24. Two pairs of rollers 18 are shown, each roller of the upper pair being axially adjustable to enable the ribbon to be coated with two parallel ink stripes of different colours. Each roller 18 has a spring-urged doctor blade 27 to remove excess ink. The spindles of the rollers 18, 24 have intermeshing gears and all are driven from one shaft.
