Abstract

848,860. Road-vehicle spring suspensions. PRATOLONGO, M., and KEAN, C. Jan. 28, 1959 [June 3, 1958], No. 17707/58. Class 108(2). A pair of axles A, B, are interconnected with each other and with the frame 2 of a mobile crane by means of torsion springs 1 each of which is formed from a series of leaf springs 3. The spring 1 on the off side of the vehicle is connected rigidly to the leading axle A; and by means of a pivotal connection with the trailing axle B. The axle on the near side of the vehicle is connected by a pivotal connection to the leading axle A, and is rigid with the trailing axle B. The middle portion of each spring 1 is held between plates 9 which have a pivot connection 20 with a respective U-shaped bracket 10 rigid with the frame 2. The extremities of the U-shaped bracket 10 may be drawn together by bolts 15. In operation, the springs 1 permit the axles A, B, to twist relatively to each other, as shown. Vertical deflection of the springs 1, due to bending in a vertical plane, is not possible.
