Abstract

848,699. Knitting-machines. NEGRI, M., and NEGRI, I. Dec. 11, 1956 [Dec. 14, 1955], No. 37777/56. Class 74 (2). A hand-knitting machine comprises at least one flat needle bed having a pair of longitudinal rails 36, 37, which may be integral therewith, to carry and guide a cam carriage, a plurality of parallel transverse through-slots opening at the underside of the bed and two opposed parallel slots 40, 41 adjacent said through-slots, a plurality of latch needles positioned slidably, one in each through-slot and a strip element 42 slidably engaged by its edges in the opposed slots so as to retain the needles in the throughslots. A rubber insert 45 yieldingly holds the needles in their retracted position. In another rubber braking-insert 48, of Y cross-section, there is inserted a cord 49 of oiled felt, to lubricate the needles, which may be withdrawn in a rearward direction, the rubber insert yielding elastically for this purpose. As shown, two beds 10, 11 are linked together by hinges 20 about which the assembly 10 may be swung upwardly to position 10<SP>1</SP>, say, to give access to the work. The common axis of the hinges is parallel to the line of intersection of the needle paths, and lies in the plane A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>11</SP> and very near to the gap 19. An arm 21 at each end of the machine holds the assemblies in their normal working position. The machine may be secured to an edge of a table with one bed completely overhanging the edge.
