Abstract
848,334. Centrifugal separators. HOWDEN & CO. Ltd., J. Dec. 18, 1957 [Dec. 27, 1956], No. 39279/56. Class 23 [Also in Group XL(a)] A gas cleaning system includes a primary cyclone separator 31 for removing the coarse particles, an electrostatic precipitator 34 in which the fine particles are removed by a scavenging gas stream and a secondary cyclone separator 43 which receives both the coarse particles carried by a gas stream from the primary separator and the fine particles carried by the scavenging gas stream from the precipitator. Both of these streams are fed first to a mixing chamber 50. The cleaned gas from the secondary separator 43 is then returned either upstream or downstream of the primary separator 31. In another embodiment a third gas stream carrying intermediate sized particles is derived from the primary separator and passed to a second electrostatic precipitator from which scavenging gas is also passed to the secondary separator. The secondary separator is preferably of the reverse flow multi-cell type.
