Mechanism for controlling the operations of a straight-bar machine comprises jacquard mechanism which selectively operates one or more control levers 1 connected to the various components of the machine requiring adjustment, for example, cam trucks and racking mechanism for the fashioning screws. Each lever 1 has pivoted thereto a selector guide 2 adapted to be raised into the path of a continuously-oscillating bar 5 when a drum 14 is raised to present a jacquard card to the lower ends of plungers 4 connected to the guides 2. As the result of the selection made through the card and plungers 4 the appropriate guides are engaged by the bar 5 and the levers 1 are turned until they engage catches 9 which retain them in their selected position. Each revolution of the cam-shaft the catches are released and depending on whether any reselection has been made the levers are either allowed to return to their initial position or are retained in their selected position. The drum 14 is rotated to bring the jacquard cards on to the operative face and also may be moved first in one direction and then in the other where two cards permit alternate selection for part of the operation of the machine.
