Class 146(3) In the housing of the writing tip 2 of a ball-point writing unit, the writing ball 5 is retained by a beading 6 on the housing, and inkfeed channels 3, which feed ink from a central duct 4 into the housing, extend towards the beading but are of different lengths such that their upper ends are at different distances from the beading. As shown, the plane in which the beading 6 lies is at an angle to a plane through the vertical axis of the unit, and the upper ends of the channels 3 on the extreme left and extreme right, are at distances denoted c, d, and e, f, respectively from the beading. Preferably, a portion of the tip 2 around the zone where the beading 6 is lowest is removed by grinding to facilitate writing in a tilted position of the unit. Depending upon the position in which the unit is held during writing, and the rotation of the ball during writing, it is possible to draw thick and thin lines, and it is stated that the usual characteristics of a person's handwriting may be expressed with such a pen.
