Abstract
A water dispersible pesticidal pulverulent composition comprises an admixture containing gamma benzene hexachloride and at least one resin e.g. a chlorinated polyphenol resin, a para tertiary octyl phenol resin, prepared by reacting 4-(1:1:3:3) tetra methyl butyl phenol and formaldehyde, a coumarone resin, a phenolic terpene resin prepared by reacting turpentine and phenol or a modified phenolic terpene resin prepared by reacting the product of turpentine and phenol with paraform equivalent to 1/4 the weight of the turpentine or phenol in intimate association wherein the ratio of gamma benzene hexachloride to resin is such that for vapour pressures measured by effusion at 50 DEG C. the vapour pressure of the gamma benzene hexachloride is less than 75% of the vapour pressure of free gamma benzene hexachloride and after 25% has evaporated at 50 DEG C. the vapour pressure is less than 25% of the vapour pressure of free gamma benzene hexachloride. The composition may also be such that the vapour pressure of the gamma benzene hexachloride is less than 20% of the vapour pressure of free gamma benzene hexachloride and after 6% has evaporated at 50 DEG C. the vapour pressure is less than 8% of the vapour pressure of free gamma benzene hexachloride.ALSO:A water dispersible pesticidal pulverulent composition comprises an admixture containing gamma benzene hexachloride and at least one resin in intimate association wherein the ratio of gamma benzene hexachloride to resin is such that for vapour pressures measured by effusion at 50 DEG C. the vapour pressure of the gamma benzene hexachloride is less than 75% of the vapour pressure of free gamma benzene hexachloride and after 25% has evaporated at 50 DEG C the vapour pressure is less than 25% of the vapour pressure of free gamma benzene hexachloride. The ratio of the gamma benzene hexachloride to the resin may also be such that the vapour pressure measured of the gamma benzene hexachloride is less than 20% of the vapour pressure of free gamma benzene hexachloride and after 6% has evaporated at 50 DEG C. the vapour pressure is less than 8% of the vapour pressure of free benzene hexachloride. The preferred resins are solid chlorinated paraffins, for example the solid chlorinated paraffin waxes and in particular the solid chlorinated paraffin wax "Cereclor"70 (Registered Trade Mark) containing 65 to 75% chlorine. Preferably the ratio of gamma benzene hexachloride to a solid chlorinated paraffin wax containing 65-75% chlorine, is not higher than 2 : 1 and the gamma benzene hexachloride does not exceed 75% by weight on the combined weight of the benzene hexachloride and the solid chlorinated paraffin. Other resins specified are chlorinated polyphenol resin, para tertiary octyl phenol resin (prepared by reacting 4-(1 : 1 : 3 : 3) tetra methyl butyl phenol and formaldehyde), coumarone resin, a phenolic terpene resin (made by reacting turpentine and phenol) and a modified phenolic terpene resin (made by reacting the product of turpentine and phenol with paraform).
