Abstract

847,226. Wall structure for buildings. METAL SECTIONS Ltd. Nov. 18,1957 [Nov. 16, 1956], No. 35048/56. Class 20(4) A wall structure comprises spaced apart walls 1, 3 preferably of asbestos composition or other fireproof material, tied together by back-to-back channel members 6, 7 the sides of which engage the walls 1, 3. The outer wall 3 may be covered by a corrugated sheet metal casing 5. The channels 6, 7 are secured to each other by bolts 8 and have sides bent out at acute angles to form flanges 6a, 7a adjacent the inner wall, the other sides being bent inwardly at right angles and then folded outwardly to form flanges 6b, 7b which are also bent as shown to form flanges 6c, 7c. The flanges form two auxiliary channels 9, 10 which are fitted with projecting, bevelled, asbestos &c. fillets 11, 12 which engage the walls 1, 3 without metal contact. Z-shaped clips 14 attached to the wall 1 engage the channel members on one side whilst hook ended bolts 15 passing through wall 3 engage the channel members on the other side as shown. Vertical T-sectioned angle irons 17 with asbestos &c. facing fillets 18 extend between an upper channel 6 of one set of channel members to a lower channel 7 of an adjacent set of channel members on the wall 1 to increase rigidity and may cover vertical joints in the slabs 2 of the wall. Heat insulating material may be interposed between fillets 11, 12 and 18.
