Abstract

846,776. Stuffing-box substitutes. CAMMELL LAIRD & CO. (SHIPBUILDERS & ENGINEERS) Ltd. Aug. 8, 1958 [Sept. 6, 1957], No. 28146/57. Class 122 (5). [Also in Group XXIX] The flow of steam to the glands 29 of a steam turbine 28 is controlled by a regulator 31 (see Group XXIX) having a spring- or weightloaded valve associated with a dashpot, the valve being responsive to pressure variations in a gland steam reservoir 30. In operation, steam is fed into the regulator through an inlet 11 and passes through an outlet 13 into a water separator 33 associated with a trap 34 and into the reservoir 30 which is connected by a drain 35 to the main condenser 36 ; a leak-off port 12 in the regulator may be connected to the main condenser or to a gland vapour condenser, as shown.
