Class 123(2) [Also in Group XXIX] In a boiler feed pump installation including in series a condenser 1, a condenser extraction pump 2, a deaerator 5 and a boiler feed pump 6 located below the deaerator, a non-return valve 11 in a bypass line 8 permits feed-water to by-pass the deaerator and flow direct from the extraction pump 2 to the feed pump 6 in the event of an abnormal loss of static head or vapour pressure occurring in the deaerator, this vapour pressure normally maintaining sufficient pressure at the suction of the feed pump 6 to prevent flow through the non-return valve, under the control of a regulating valve 12 intercalated in a branch steam line 13 to the deaerator which is controlled by means responsive to the pressure of water discharged by the extraction pump. The regulating valve 12 is actuated by a spring-loaded diaphragm 15, Fig. 2, which is subject to an actuating air pressure delivered through a restriction 23 and controlled by a hinged leak-off valve 28 which is responsive through a bellows 34 to the delivery pressure of the extraction' pump 2 via a conduit 33, in a sense to cause opening of the valve 12 on rising delivery pressure of this pump. The leak-off valve 12 is also responsive, in the opposite sense through a conduit 31 and bellows 30, to the vapour pressure in the deaerator. A booster pump 4 is fitted between the extraction pump 2 and the deaerator 5.
