Abstract

846,158. Belt fastenings. HISCOCK, R. S., and HISCOCK, F. R. Aug. 18, 1958 [Nov. 21, 1957], No. 36344/57. Class 80 (1). In a belt fastening comprising a hinge-pin, interconnecting two interlaced strip-metal halves formed with prongs clinched into the belt ends, wherein each fastener half comprises a metallic strip which is mutilated to provide two or more rows of staggered prongs A, B, connected by a continuous bar C, and is bent to a V-section to provide a row of hinge eye elements D, the strip is also formed with a row of lugs E serving to locate a fitting or gauge-pin G. The pin G is used during the clinching operation to straighten the strip and prevent deformation of the eyes D. The lugs E may be such that the pin G is held frictionally in the fastener half. As shown, the lugs are so positioned that they locate the belt end. Alternatively they may be so positioned that the belt end is located by the fitting-pin G. It is stated that lugs may project from the edges of one or both rows of prongs. The bar C is scored with weakening lines H to facilitate breaking off a required length of strip.
