Abstract

Class 20(4) A panel assembly for floors comprises a number of panels 11 each embodying strips 12 of elongated configuration in cross-section connected together in spaced relationship with the major axis of the cross-section of the strips extending transversely of the plane of the panel, a number of flanged supports 10 for the panels, and securing members 15 for fastening the panels to the supports. The members 15 each comprise a one-piece, deformable, metal plate provided at one portion thereof with an inwardly tapered recess 18 extending from an edge of the plate and receiving an edge portion of the, or one of the flanges 14 of the support, with opposite sides of the recess in gripping engagement with opposite faces of the received flange to secure the plate thereto, the plate being formed at a position transversely opposite to the two mutually tapered sides of the recess with one or more integral tongues 17 which are bent over an adjacent panel strip edge which is directed away from the associated flanged support so as thereby to secure each of the panels to the supports. As shown, the members 15 are formed from sheet or strip metal bent about a medial line parallel to one pair of opposed edges to provide a web 16 of double thickness; the tongues 17 may also be bent around the bars 13 interconnecting the strips 12. According to the Provisional Specification, the members may be used to secure timber panels. Specifications 715,638 and 755,735 are referred to.
