[Also in Group XXXV] A method of encapsulating at least part of an electrical device, e.g. a transformer or a choke, includes the steps of surrounding the said part of the device with a granular absorbent mass of material, allowing the material to absorb a thermosetting (including cold-setting) synthetic resin, which is then liquid, and causing or allow-' ing the resin to set. The device may be mounted within a container which partially encloses it and the absorbent mass of material may fill the voids between the device and the container. The container may comprise a metallic, e.g. brass, framework upon which is wound a tape, e.g. a glass cloth tape, to form the walls of the container. If the device includes a ferro-magnetic core, this core may be spaced from the framework by a shim or shims of resilient material, e.g. rubber. The pressure acting on the absorbent mass of material may be reduced below atmospheric before and during the introduction of the resin, and increased to at least atmospheric and may be higher during at least part of the period when absorption of the resin by the absorbent mass is taking place. The material of the absorbent mass may be an inorganic material, e.g. quartz or silica, in finely-divided form. The resin may be an epoxy resin.
