Abstract

Alkyl isothiocyanates are prepared by reacting phosgene with an aqueous solution of a sodium, potassium or ammonium N-alkyl dithiocarbamate. Sodium N-methyl and N-ethyl dithiocarbamates are prepared by reacting together carbon disulphide, sodium hydroxide and methylamine or ethylamine as appropriate.
