Abstract

[Also in Group XV] A tab or label for temporary attachment to a textile article by the action of heat and pressure comprises a warp-knitted fabric including thermoplastic and non-thermoplastic yarns. By knitting the yarns on a two-bar machine only sufficient of the thermoplastic yarn, which may be cellulose acetate, need be exposed on one face as to provide sufficient adherence when the label is applied under heat and pressure to the article so as to ensure its continued attachment during normal handling conditions, but which, nevetheless, can be readily removed by deliberate pulling of the label from the article. The non-thermoplastic yarns may be cotton, and the yarns may be threaded to ensure a predominance of cotton yarn and to avoid an excess exposure of the thermoplastic yarn. By threading one bar with cotton only the loops are plated such that the fabric presents a substantially all-cotton surface on one face on which it is suitable to print any desired marking.
