Abstract
852,133. Finishing yarns. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORPORATION. Nov. 2 1956 [Nov. 2, 1955], No. 33543/56. Drawings to Specification. Classes 120(3) and 142(4). Potentially crimpable, continuous, mono-or multi-filament yarn e.g. of nylon, polyesters, polyacrylontrile, cellulose triacetate or diacetate, is made into stretch/bulk yarn by passing it, at elevated temperature caused by heating means, about a sharp edge of a blade member, cooling the yarn, and thereafter (before or after winding and/or knitting or weaving into fabric) reheating, in a running length to a temperature of at least 120‹F. whilst under tension e.g. 0.01 grams per denier, insufficient to prevent it contracting, or in fabric form immersed in a liquid bath the temperature of which is raised from not more than 100‹F. to at least 140‹F., with continuous agitation, the rate of temperature increase being not more than 4‹F. per minute until the temperature is at least 140‹F. (but lower than the sticking temperature of the yarn) and not more than 6‹F. per minute beyond 140‹F. if the fabric is to be heated to at least 180‹F. A running yarn may be reheated by overfeeding into a heated fluid or into contact with a heated surface. The yarn, after passing about the edge, may be cooled, by 100-200‹F. below the minimum temperature at which it may be satisfactorily passed about the edge, under a tension of 0À05- 1 gram per denier. Stretch yarn may comprise warp and weft or weft only in a fabric having fine grained, tree bark or pebble effect. Specifications 761,084, 842,703 and 852,134 are referred to.
