Abstract

845,517. Sorting rod-like articles. GUEST KEEN & NETTLEFOLDS (MIDLANDS) Ltd. Oct. 4, 1957 [July 7, 1956], No. 21126/56. Class 117 Bolts or the like 21 are supported by their heads on a pair of parallel inclined rails 10 down which they travel, with their shanks extending between the rails, and a flexible belt 12 engages the bolt heads at a sorting station 11 and carries them past an obstruction 17 spaced a pre-determined distance below the rails, so that bolt shanks of a length greater than this distance will strike the obstruction and the bolts will be deflected and removed from the rails. At the sorting station a gap is provided between the rails and is bridged by flexible strips 15, 16 which enable the deflected bolts to be removed. Upward movement of the belt at the deflection point is prevented by an adjustable roller 23 or a flat skid bar. A number of sorting stations may be disposed along the rails so that a different length of shank is sorted at each station. For sorting bolts &c. according to their shank diameters the obstruction consists of two spaced plates between which the shanks pass or not according to their diameters.
