Abstract
845,427. Reservoir pens. WPC ENTERPRISES Inc., [formerly WATERMAN PEN CO. Inc.]. Oct. 23, 1956 [Oct. 24, 1955], No. 32317/56. Class 146(3). Means for connecting more or less axially disposed air and ink channels at the forward end of the reservoir of a fountain pen to transversely offset air and ink passages of the feedbar comprises a plug member having a bore which can be put into communication with the reservoir and communicating by means of at least one radial groove with a peripheral recess in the member, and a transverse passage connecting the bore and the periphery of the member. As shown applied to an ink-cartridge pen, an axial tube 15 which penetrates the end of the ink cartridge 9 houses a feed element 16 having an ink passage 19 and an air passage 18 and is received in an axial bore 46 in the plug member 36. The ink is fed along the passage 19, through radial grooves 50 in the plug member to a peripheral groove 38 therein and thus to the ink passages 29 in the feedbar 3. Air can enter along a passage 28 in the feed-bar to an annular space 37 between the member 36 and the inner surface of the nibsection 2 and thus by a transverse passage 51 in the member 36 to the passage 18 in the feed element 16. The forward ends of the feed element 16 and plug 36 abut against the inner end of the feed bar 3 at which point the passage 19 extends to the bottom of the feed element 16, as shown at 21, Fig. 6. A rear flange 35 on the plug member abuts against a flange 22 fixed to the tube 15 and serves substantially to centre the plug in the nib section 2, a leakpreventing washer 55 being provided between the flange 22 and the end of a sleeve 6 connecting the nib-section 2 to the barrel 1.
