845,365. Recuperators. INDUSTRIECOMPANIE KLEINEWEFERS KONSTRUKTIONS. Nov. 9, 1956 [Nov. 10, 1955; Sept. 29, 1956], No. 34310/56. Class 64(1) A recuperator has a high temperature portion in which the heating gas is separated by a jacket 7 from the gas to be heated and a low temperature portion surrounding a high temperature portion, both sides of a separating wall 16 having a coefficient of thermal conductivity which is less than 0.3 Kcal/m<SP>2</SP>.h.oc being traversed by the gas to be heated. Heating air is supplied through a passage 1 and air for burning any combustible constituents thereof through a duct 2 and passages 3. After passing through chambers 4, 5, in which combustion and deposition of dust can occur, the heating gas passes through the jacket 7, a space 8 in which its direction is reversed, tubes 9 and an annular channel 10 connected by a pipe 11 to the chimney. Air to be heated. passes through a duct 12 and an annular channel 13 to an annular space 14 containing the tubes 9 and forming the low temperature portion of the recuperator. Holes 15 in the wall 16 enable the air to pass from the space 14 into a gap 17 where it is heated mainly by radiation from the jacket which is of sheet metal and provided with radial ribs. The inner surface of the wall 16 may be roughened or the outer surface of the jacket 7 may be modified to cause eddying of the air in the gap 17. The wall 16 may consist of several layers at least one of which has a coefficient of thermal conductivity less than that stated above. It may support a plate 21 carrying the jacket 7. tubes 9 and an insulating outer jacket 22 or these parts may be supported by a carrier mounted outside the recuperator. Seals 23, 24, 25 permit relative movement due to expansion.
