844,963. Cigarette-making machines. KORBER, K. Oct. 29, 1957, No. 33693/57. Class 130. In a tobacco rod compression tongue similar to that of Specification 798,308, pivoting of the tongue portion containing the endless rod-contacting belt 35, Fig. 3, about one belt pulley spindle 2 is effected under the control of needlebearing toggle links 27; 29 which prevent lateral displacement and, when the tongue portion is in the raised inoperative position, are held over-centre as shown by the weight of a handle 38 on the link 29, a stop 38a on the link 27 preventing further overcentre movement. Holding- down bolts 40 pass through slots in a link bearing 22 to allow its adjustment axially of the tobacco rod. The links 27, 29 are disposed on one side of the machine only and the tongue portion may be moved from the other side by a knob co-axial with the pulley 16. The operative position of the tongue portion is determined by a screw 34 locked by a nut 36 and co-acting with the tobacco rod forming duct 32. The other tongue portion 43, Fig. 4, is bolted to a holder 45 located on the duct 32 by a screw 48 in a mount 41 having slots 49 allowing adjustment laterally of the duct 32. There may be adjustable stop on the duct 32 additionally locating the portion 43 axially of the duct.
