Class 117 An endless belt conveyer 10 feeds root crops together with clods of earth &c. to an inclined plate 16 and the crops by their rolling or bouncing movement, travel across a transverse conveyer 12 to a conveyer 23 whereas the clods and other foreign matter remain on the conveyer 12 and are fed to a conveyer 25. A vertically adjustable rigid plate 26 is located below the upper stretch of the conveyer 12 and has an extenson 27 for directing the crops on to the conveyer 23. The plate 16 has guides 22 and pivots about its upper end, and is adjustable by a screw 18. A clockwise driven roller 28 is supported at the bottom of the plate 16, and its spindle is rotatably mounted in apertures in levers 29 pivoted to lugs 31. The levers are angularly adjustable to vary the spacing of the roller and plate. The conveyer 12 is adjustably inclined transverse its length towards the plate 16 and thereby assists in retaining the clods &c. whilst allowing the crops to travel across it. For this purpose the spindles of the conveyer rollers are mounted between members 39, 40, the member 39 being pivoted about an axis along its length, while the member 40 is supported by a link 41 engaging a lever 42 pivoted at 43, and the lever may be engaged in any one of a number of positions. The guides 22 may be replaced by stationary scrapers, in which case the plate 16 is transversely oscillated against them. A resilient flap 49 is provided.
