Class 117 A device for rejecting over-sized dough pieces from an endless band conveyer 1 comprises a rotating roll 4 spaced parallely above the conveyer at a distance slightly greater than the maximum permitted height of the dough pieces and inclined to its length, the lower part of the roll moving faster than the conveyer and in an opposite direction so that over-sized dough pieces carried by the conveyer foul the roll and are deflected laterally into a shoot or receptacle 11. As shown, the roll is on a shaft 6 carried between a pair of trunnions 7 extending from a carrying bar 8 in turn mounted on brackets 3 and the height of the roll is adjustable by means of a shouldered screw 7a passing through a lug 7b in one of the trunnions, the screw shoulder bearing on the upper surface of the lug and spring means pressing on the lug's underside. The roll, which is driven either by a separate motor or from the conveyer drive, is chain driven through a sprocket 9 on the shaft 6 or, alternatively, the sprocket may be freely journalled on the carrying bar 8 and meshed with a gear wheel secured to the shaft 6. Alternatively, instead of the sprocket and chain drive a vee belt pulley and a vee belt drive may be used. The roll may be axially fluted. Instead of the roll, an endless band on rolls may be used as the deflector.
