844,666. Telescopic joints. GODDARD & CO. Ltd., F. April 20, 1959 [April 18, 1958], No. 12372/58. Class 99(1). In a joint for adjustably holding an inner member 6 of solid or hollow circular section in an outer member 5 of hollow circular section, the latter member has an externally screwed end on which is engaged a nut 7 formed with a sleeve-like extension 8 provided with a coned inner surface 9, the larger end of the cone having a diameter greater than that of the screwed bore of the nut, and the smaller end a diameter slightly greater than the external diameter of the member 6 ; extending from the larger end of the cone to the bore of the nut is an inwardly projecting step 10. A part-circular wire 12 or strip of metal, plastic, fibre or other material is located in the extension 8 has a normal internal-diameter less than the external diameter of the member 5 and greater than the exterior diameter of the member 6. By screwing up the nut, the end 13 of the member 5 abuts the wire 12 which is contracted radially by the surface 9 and to grip the member 6.
