Abstract
844,545. Lids for containers. BERGENS BLIKTRYKKERI BERGEN S.A. Jan. 24, 1958 [Jan. 25, 1957], No. 2418/58. Class 66. A metal can comprises a bead 2 defining the mouth, and a lid 3 having a rim 7 and a flange 4 supporting a packing ring 5, one or more holes 11 being made in the bead at a place which allows free escape of air from inside the can as the lid 3 is applied and enables the holes to be sealed from the atmosphere by the ring 5 when the lid is in its final closing position. The edge 12 of the bead 2 is spaced from the wall 1 of the can along at least part of its length to enable'the release of air trapped in the can. The invention may be applied to cans having a ring at their upper end, the ring being beaded on its inner edge.
