Abstract

843,943. Continuous weighing systems. FAIRBANKS, MORSE & CO. Oct. 29, 1956, No. 32912/56. Class 40 (1). A conveyer or weighing system comprises a pair of A.C. energized strain gauge load cells 2, 3 acted on by the loaded conveyer belt 1 and connected with an element 41 producing a voltage corresponding to the dead weight of the belt in a self-balancing potentiometer circuit. The potentiometer motor 5 drives a cam 10 which adjusts the gear ratio of a ball and disc transmission between a shaft 22 driven at a speed related to that of the conveyer and a counter 27 which thus registers the total weight carried. The motor also adjusts a D.C. potential divider with calibrating adjustments, Fig. 3 (not shown), associated with a meter which indicates the instantaneous loading on the conveyer. A further potential divider, also with calibrating adjustments, Fig. 4 (not shown), driven by the balancing motor is supplied by a tachometer generator driven by the belt and its associated meter 11 thus indicates weight passing per unit time.
