Abstract
1334156 Automatic feed control CARL SCHENCK MASCHINENFABRIK GmbH 7 May 1971 [19 Oct 1970] 13843/71 Heading G3R In Fig.1, material supplied from a hopper 1 is delivered by a conveyor 3 and a signal corresponding to the mass flow is derived at 8 from electrical transducers 5 and 7 respectively detecting the weight on an the speed of the conveyor. This signal is compared at 10 with a signal from 9 corresponding to a desired rate of flow so that any error is automatically corrected by control of the speed of conveyor motor 6. Pulses corresponding to rate of change in weight of and hence the mass flow from hopper 1 are derived from a transducer 15, converted to volumetric flow by a potentiometer 26, and compared by a counter 18 with pulses corresponding to the desired volumetric flow derived at 19 from the actual or desired mass flow signal at 8 or 9. Any difference from this comparison then alters the datum of the first mentioned closed-loop control system at 20. This second control is rendered in-operative by a counter 28 after a predetermined number of pulses from generator 16 or 19. The second control system may be applied to a number of different feeders in sucession by the operation of selector switches 23-25. In a modification, Fig.2 (not shown), counters 18 and 28 are replaced by counters (30, 31) respectively responsive to the two gates of pulses, one (30) controlling the other (31, such as at (31) is responsive to pulses over a predetermined count interval so as to provide the datum altering signal as a function of the difference between the number of pulses counted in (31) over said interval and a pre-selected countvalue .
