Abstract

1,015,717. Packaging - machines. FR. HESSER, MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. July 13, 1964 [July 23, 1963], No. 28822/64. Heading B8C. [Also in Division G1] A machine for filling containers with powders &c. from weighing or other increment measuring devices in which the measuring or discharge of an increment commences in advance of a container coming into position below a discharge hopper, has means to vary automatically the lead of the measuring device according to the infeed speed of the containers. In the machine described, containers 3 are fed continuously below hoppers 4 moving with them. Weighing devices 5, one for each two hoppers, discharge via funnels 9 into fixed intermediate chambers 7. The funnels are pivoted by pneumatic means 115 to discharge faulty weights into a shoot 8. The incoming containers are monitored by photo-electric means 10. There are four weighers and associated with each is a memory device (12-15), a time delay device (49-52) and an impulse shunt (61-64), Fig. 3 (not shown). Cams 25-28 driven from a shaft of the machine operate switches 29-32 to connect each weigher in turn to its memory, Fig. 6. Considering weigher I, Fig. 3 (not shown), when cam 25 closes switch 29, a signal derived from the means 10 actuated by an incoming container is applied to the respective memory 12. As the resulting charge may have to be stored for a period the memory may be a switching pattern which enables a further charge to be received before the first is discharged. The discharge of the memory to the weigher is controlled by cam 17 on a shaft 81, the timing of which relative to the machine shaft is automatically adjustable to vary the lead referred to above. Cam 17 closes switch 21, the increment is weighed and together with a make-up quantity, added by means not described, is dropped into an intermediate chamber 7. Discharge into a hopper 4 is initiated by a switch 45 closed by a cam 41 direct driven from the machine shaft which causes a pulse to operate a solenoid valve 57 via a transistor 53 after a delay determined by the device 49, Fig. 3 (not shown). The timing of the shaft 81 is adjusted through a differential drive 80, Fig. 6, the planet arm 106 being rotated to advance or reduce lead by forward or reverse drive magnetic clutches 38 or 39, a brake 40 terminating movement at the desired setting. The signals to engage one or other clutches are derived from a generator 34 driven from the main shaft, the output of which is compared with a voltage related to the position of the clutch driven shaft and obtained via a potentiometer 35. As alternatives to the generator, centrifugal or oil pressure means could be used to produce a signal proportional to the main shaft speed. Rejection of faulty weights is controlled by the impulse shunts, the respective one of which receives a signal as each weigher discharges into its funnel 9. If the weight is correct, the shunt energizes a solenoid valve 69 via a transistor 65 (in the case of the weigher I), Fig. 3 (not shown), so that the shoot is pivoted to discharge into the chamber 7. An incorrect weight causes pivoting to discharge into the shoot 8. The discharge gate 116 of each chamber 7 operates a switch 94 and if the gate has failed to open, a further increment instead of being discharged into the chamber, is directed to the shoot 8. Means is provided for setting the circuits on starting the machine and providing a delay period while the main shaft runs up to speed.
