1459323 Bag filling apparatus SIG SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE - GES 9 April 1974 [10 April 1973] 15609/74 Heading G1W [Also in Division G3] A bag filling apparatus comprises a series of cups 6 moving along a track 5, a plurality of weighing devices 8 1 , 82, 8 3 which empty weighed out portions into the cups which in turn empty themselves into bags 2 conveyed along a path 1, a monitoring device 11 for checking whether the cups located at the outlets of the weighing devices are empty, and control devices 9 1 , 9 2 , 9 3 which permit a weighing device to empty into a cup only if the cup is empty and if the weighing device has signalled that it contains the required weight. In the embodiment shown in the Figures, cups 6 are carried by an endless chain, either continuously or intermittently, along the track 5 and at position 624 tip into a bag 2 at position 2 1 . Each weighing device includes a switch 23 which is closed when the required weight is contained in the weighing device. Each control device 9 comprises an AND gate which empties the weighing device when all its inputs are positive, and one input of each device 9 is connected to the corresponding switch 23 and another to a pulse generator 26 which produces pulses in synchronism with the movement of the cups. The monitoring device 11 includes three shift registers 19 1 , 19 2 , 19 3 , which are shifted by a pulse generator 22 which produces pulses in synchronism with the movement of the cups. Each shift register 19 includes 26 stages, the first 24 of which correspond to cup positions 61 to 624 along track 5, and the last two of which correspond to the first two bag positions following the bag filling position 2 1 . In operation, when a cup is at position 6 1 and generator 26 produces a pulse, weighing device will discharge or not into the cup according to whether switch 231 is closed or not. If the weighing device discharges a "filled" signal is put into stage 20 1 of register 19 1 . When a cup is in position 6 11 below weighing device 821 device 82 will only discharge into the cup when generator 26 emits a pulse providing switch 23 2 is closed and providing that stage 20 1 1 of register 19 1 signals that the cup has not been filled by weighing device 81. If the weighing device 82 discharges into the cup, a "filled" signal is put into stage 2011 of register 19 2 . When a cup is in position 621 below weighing device 8 3, device 8 3 will only discharge into the cup when generator 26 emits a pulse providing switch 23 3 is closed and providing that stages 20 22 of registers 19 1 and 19 2 both signal that the cup has not been filled by weighing devices 8 1 and 8 2 . If the weighing device 8 3 discharges into the cup, a "filled" signal is put into stage 20 21 of register 19 3 . As a filled bag passes position 22 a device 13 embosses or prints a mark on the bag to identify which of the weighing devices 8 1 , 8 2 or 83 weighed the charge in the bag. Device 13 comprises a cam operated hammer and embossing or printing head 36. The head 36 appropriate to the weighing device which filled the bag is brought into position under the hammer 44 against spring-bias by a solenoid 32 actuated by the signal from stage 2026 of the corresponding shift register 19 via an amplifier 31. Bags that are empty or grossly underweight are identified by a check weigher 14 and discharged from path 1 by device 15.
