[Also in Group XXXIII] A power transmission for a propeller shaft 21 of a boat comprises a stern tube 13 containing a bearing or bearings 7, 23 for the propeller shaft, an engine support 39 formed integrally with or fixed to the stern tube, an engine unit 12, means for detachably securing said unit to said support, and a clutch or coupling between the engine unit and the propeller shaft or part rotating therewith. In Fig. 1 the engine shaft 32 is connected to the propeller shaft 21 by a centrifugal clutch 28, 38. This clutch may be replaced by a detachable direct-drive coupling, or a manually operable clutch, and a gear box may be incorporated on either the engine shaft or the propeller shaft side of the clutch and may include reversing gearing. Specification 781,946 is referred to.
